Ride Report – VMMA Sunday 4th December:
Christmas in the High Country
As you all know by now, if you want some rain just call on
the Forsters to get on their bike. And so along comes a perfect opportunity to
have a ride with VMMA members from Valley Homestead to Yackandandah then onto
Beechworth with the Alpine Riders branch of the Ulysses Club.
6am and the ABC radio weather man tells me it is going to
rain early with clearing showers through the day.
Out of bed into the shower and outside we go, a lovely sunny day is
shining through.
Breakfast eaten, and as usual the moving of furniture up
and down stairs. We muster at the manager’s house; well we tried to muster at
the manager’s house.
Who was it that lost their helmet?
Lose your glasses, yes, your wallet yes, but a bloody helmet? Grasshopper
helmets must be easily misplaced! Eventually with helmet on head all riders
mustered and headed to the meeting point in Myrtleford.
By 11am there was something in the vicinity of 40 bikes
ready to head off on the annual toy run.
½ an hour later we arrived in Yackandandah who was it that dropped their
beautiful bike???? A short toilet stop and a coffee (or in my case another
breakfast), off we went to Beechworth round the back way, and through some minor
road works.
Seems we timed it a little early, the local Minister having
to cut her sermon short to get out and cook the BBQ lunch.
The Salvation Army vehicle was soon
filled with the toys given by all the riders. We sat and socialised for a while,
then realising the weekend really did have to come to an end fond farewells were
dispensed, with promises to catch up again as soon as possible.
Yet another amazing time with VMMA members.
Thanks guys, oh and it DID NOT rain.
