A report from the house of Forster
VMMA Social Weekend at Lakes Entrances
Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th May 2011
Report by Barry & Rhonda Forster
We departed our home at 8.40am and headed over the mountain to meet with other members of the VMMA for an overnight stay at Lakes Entrance.
Our journey over Mt Hotham was a little hair raising having to drive approximately 30+km on roads covered in ice and snow. In fact at the first sign of snow the lady of the house was given to understand that the man would be better prepared for the drive (and he was!).
We arrived at the location superbly organised by Kerry & Ian Goddard 4.5 hours after departure. Peter & Pam had arrived the night before. Then along came Bob and Jean, Chris & Sharon, Dean & Tracy, Chris B, and of course Kerry and Ian, last to arrive was Dennis and Anita.
On our way over Mt Hotham to Lakes Entrance.
Whilst awaiting the arrival of the late comers the rest of us went for a very wind-blown, but most enjoyable walk over the boardwalk (now concrete) to walk along the 90 mile beach. Tracy & Sharon were a little closer to the water, Sharon slipped bottom first down a trench and from where the rest of us were standing looked just like she was actually in the ocean.
We then headed back and became a ‘splintered’ group, some playing mini golf, some off to the local supermarket for supplies, a few for an afternoon nap and the rest straight into the pub.
A relaxing fun filled afternoon followed.
Then off to dinner, poor Kerry nearly had apoplexy after the dining room allowed another group to snatch our table. The VMMA being who and what they are were of course not deterred, we gathered our own and had a terrific low cost 5 star meal.
We then retired to room 4 where the friendship, socialising and evening continued into the small hours.
After what seemed a very short sleep we met for breakfast and at Pam’s recommendation went to a different motel. Wow what a breakfast was provided. Pancakes for Tracy, bacon eggs, scrambled eggs, toasties, big breakfast and steak breakfasts were on our menu plan.
By 10ish we were ready to leave and after saying goodbye, we took our departure to the local fish monger to stock up.
On our way home from Lakes Entrance via Mt Hotham, nicer than yesterday!!!!
Our journey home was completely uneventful – the sun shone all the way and the road was clear and dry.
So a big thank you to Kerry & Ian for organising a social, thank you to all those who attended – I now realise that Melbourne is further from Lakes Entrance than Porepunkah.
To be able to mix with friendly, non-judgemental people is, as always our absolute delight.
Those who attended as usual showed their support for the VMMA and it’s future.
Cheers – Barry & Rhonda Forster
