Examples of Dress Standard when visiting Masonic Lodges

On the 30th January 2005 a meeting took place with G.L. at the request of the V.M.M.A. Inc. to review our current dress code that was approved on the 25th August 2003 by the United Grand Lodge of Victoria.

This meeting enabled discussion on correct protocols for the V.M.M.A. Inc. entering a lodge as a visiting group, under what circumstance are V.M.M.A members permitted to wear the approved dress code along with correct protocols associated with the V.M.M.A. Installation Team.

Approved Dress Code when Officially Visiting a Masonic Lodge is:

• Minimum of clean black denim jeans or leather trousers, black boots or shoes, white long sleeve shirt and bow tie, black leather vest or jacket along with the appropriate Masonic regalia.

Protocols & Dress Code when Officially Visiting a Lodge

• The approved Dress Code can be worn when V.M.M.A. brethren are attending an Official Visit to a lodge other than their own mother lodge (regardless of the number of V.M.M.A. members present).

• The approved Dress Code can be worn by the V.M.M.A. Installation Team during a Installation.

There are a number of exceptions that apply to the Dress Code

• V.M.M.A. brethren are, at no time, to attend their mother lodge in motorcycle attire if they hold a lodge office/position. V.M.M.A. brethren who do not hold a lodge office/position in their mother lodge are only permitted to wear motorcycle attire if the V.M.M.A. is officially visiting their mother lodge.

V.M.M.A. Entry on an Official Visit to a Masonic Lodge

• V.M.M.A. members to enter as a group, after the Master Masons and before the Past Masters. We are to be announced as “Members of the Victorian Masonic Motorcycle Association”. On entry our group will stand in a number of lines in the West.

• The follow members should be in the front rank, extending from the north west corner to the south west corner: Sitting V.M.M.A. Masters, Entered Apprentices, Fellowcraft Freemasons, and Master Masons. All other VMMA brethren not able to stand in the front rank will fill subsequent ranks.

• Subject to the direction of the Lodge Director of Ceremonies, VMMA Masters and Past Masters will be presented in the normal manner.

Entry of V.M.M.A. Installation Team

• Regardless of the fact that we (V.M.M.A.) may have sitting Masters in the Installation Team, the team should enter the Lodge as a team immediately after the Past Masters are admitted, and congregate in the West. The Worshipful Master will then welcome the team as a group, and we are to be seated in the East on the south side. Sitting V.M.M.A. Masters are to sit with the team, not on the right (north) of the Worshipful Master.

• If our Patron (P.G.M) is the Installing Master, he will enter after the visiting Masters, and be escorted under the wands for presentation, and subsequently be seated on the right of the Worshipful Master.

•  If our Patron is not the Installing Master, he will enter last, and be escorted, presented and seated as above, and will be recognised with Grand Honours as appropriate to his rank.

• V.M.M.A. members holding Grand Rank and entitled to wear chains of office are not permitted to wear chains of office unless dressed in tails. These brethren are permitted to wear their "Undress Regalia" in the V.M.M.A. approved dress code.
